🧑🏽‍🎨 Creating a Buyer Persona using ChatGPT

🧑🏽‍🎨 Creating a buyer persona using ChatGPT

I'm back, this time with an update to the style of this newsletter 💌

Based on the first feedback i've received, It's clear that the Sentiment Analysis → example from my first newsletter, was what people found most interesting. A friend of mine recommended me to try a different approach, and this will be the first experiment.

In the newsletter I will focus on making the use of AI as tangible as possible through walk-throughs of my experiments. I will still share a couple of resources, but the main piece will be the experiment.

If you miss the resources, feel free to join the Discord 💬 community or follow me on Twitter 🐦 where I will continue to share resources I find useful.

🔥 Creating a buyer persona, tone of voice & ads for a fictive headphone brand using ChatGPT

In the following example, I'll show you how I have used ChatGPT, customer reviews, and the tone-of-voice from other brands to create ads for the fictive headphone brand "Crisp."

I began by setting up the chat to act like a business consultant
I wanted a better overview of the output
I wanted to add extra information to the table

Tbh, the annual revenue and headquarters info didn't matter much. Now I just needed some copywriting inspiration, so I went to Patagonia's Instagram profile and borrowed the copy from a handful of posts.

I then asked ChatGPT to change the character and act like a team of branding and copywriting experts and do a sentiment analysis on the copywriting.

The output looked good. If I did this over, I would try to borrow inspiration from multiple brands. Anyway, I wanted to use all the insights to make a single persona.

I took the output and merged it into a single persona and tone of voice.

The output was good enough to use as a foundation to build new personas.

I created three different personas for a generation alpha persona for the fictive headphone company "Crisp."
null

I felt that the personas needed some more personality.

I had ChatGPT add a name and more detail to each of the personas.

Way better - still not perfect, so I edited the style a bit later in the process.

I wanted to use the personas to create an Instagram post for each
I felt that it was missing the tone of voice of our target audience, so I asked ChatGPT to iterate on the copy by using the jargon, slang, and emojis that could fit the generation alpha audience

The emoji part was OK, but I could still play with the copy. I did time box this experiment to 15 minutes, so I chose to move forward.

With the first Instagram posts completed, I wanted to add an image to each post and a matching TikTok campaign concept.

Conclusion

I feel that this was quite an interesting output of 10-15 minutes of work - it would still need some more detail. Still, to run experiments, I believe ChatGPT is an excellent tool to get a head start. And suppose I was working on the prompting with someone who conducts interviews to build buyer personas. In that case, I believe we would see a 10 x output without using more time.

Bonus

I played around with ChatGPT to make a prompt for Dall-e 2 and Midjourney. In this case, I would need more time to get an output worthy of sharing in an Instagram post.
